MEET THE MAKER – Manor Cottage

MANOR COTTAGE

James and Fjona have just opened their most recent brain-child; Manor Cottage. We chat to Fjona about what’s in store for this charming home on the edge of our estate.

But before we jump to the chat, let’s start with the facts.

Manor Cottage is our home from home.  Built-in the 1850s the cottage was originally the Coachman’s house and stables.  In 1891, Fredrick Peel built the walled garden around the cottage, creating a unique outlook with real charm. Now you can soak up that charm for yourself from one of the comfy sofas within this secluded treasure.

What’s inside Manor Cottage? A proper country kitchen opening onto a large breakfast room, a sunroom, living room, dining room, bedrooms, and an idyllic garden with its own Big Green Egg. It is restful, historic and somewhere you will want to linger. And, of course, with Fjona behind every design detail of the building, she’s ensured it’s an ode to our Arts and Crafts muse; William Morris.

Manor Cottage is a place where you can host the people that matter to you most. Our master plan for the cottage, stables and walled garden will be unveiled later this year. Until then watch out for announcements about supper clubs, wine tastings, whiskey nights, and afternoon teas on the lawn.

The option to stay in the cottage and dine in Peel’s on Friday’s and Saturday’s will also provide much needed overnight capacity at the weekends for our foodie guests.  It will be a unique and immersive experience of the garden that inspires our dishes.

The cottage will also be available for private hire t0 host birthday weekends, reunions, and a dedicated space for teams to step away from the office to reflect, reimagine and recharge.

I ask Fjona about the reasons behind the design of the Cottage, and to James about what he has in mind for conversations that can take place there.

Fjona: “We’ve collaborated with craftspeople and hunted down antiques that hold a story of their own to create four unique tables to gather around in the cottage. Each table lends something different from the kind of conversations you want to have.

James: “As I’ve led teams over the years I’ve always wanted to take them somewhere that has soul. Finding a space that feels like a home from home is a real challenge.  Increasingly I hear of leaders who hire Airbnb houses to take their teams away.  We think Manor Cottage takes that idea a step further with the benefit of being fully serviced with great food and delicious drinks.

Fjona: “The cottage’s layout provides different spaces to move in and out of, allowing you to change the energy and mood throughout the day. Hold animated conversations in the breakfast room, take a relaxed moment on the sofas, and then reflect over a late-night dram in the sunroom.”

James: “From technology to toasters this space is as comfortable as home, without any of the glitches. We will offer food that has soul. Chef will pop over to prep your lunch with some of the produce that’s come out of the walled garden. In the evening we can fire up the Big Green Egg for pulled pork and beef brisket, or you may just want to wander down the drive for a Michelin-starred meal in the Manor.”
