Charles Dowding No Dig Workshop

Single Leaf

Charles Dowding — the godfather of No Dig, whose methods are now taught by the National Trust, followed by half a million people online, and championed by the Soil Association — is coming to Hampton Manor. The bestselling author and the quiet pioneer behind Britain’s garden revolution, Charles doesn’t do many of these days outside of his Somerset home.

For you, we’ve brought him closer to home, with our workshop in the Midlands. Hampton Manor is just on the border with Warwickshire. This is one of very few chances to spend time with him in a kitchen garden setting.

Expect illustrated talks, hands-on demonstrations, and an afternoon building our own no-dig bed. Less effort. Far better results. The best company.

Your garden workshop includes lunch from Hampton Manor, overlooking the Victorian walled garden. Hampton Manor is an estate dedicated to the future of food, connecting the story of the soil with our award winning restaurants.

Our garden story at Hampton Manor

When your chefs are so close to the garden, it makes more than sense to look after the soil; it’s our larder. Our restaurant Grace & Savour overlooks the walled garden, feeding you the Michelin-starred creativity that elevates dirt to dinner.

Further afield from our kitchen garden, we’re working with regenerative, organic and biodynamic farmers and growers. We’re committed to cooking entirely with British grown ingredients – it’s a rarity to taste the British landscape like this, without the influence of imports.

If you’d like a forkful of our garden, book to stay with us the night before – dine on Saturday in Grace & Savour and rise slowly for your workshop at 10am.

Or if you’d rather dinner after our workshop at a more earthy price point, read on…

No dig workshop...then dinner

After a day with your hands in the earth, a good feed is what is called for.

Whilst Grace & Savour is closed on Sundays, we’ve got something heartier for you. Our restaurant Kynd, one of Conde Nast’s acclaimed Best Openings, rests at the other end of the walled garden. It’s quaintly set in the old furnace house which, in days gone by, used to heat the greenhouses. Rustic and down to earth, our cooking celebrates small farms with brave stories; growers committed to taking the less common path to protect the life in the soil.

Dinner at Kynd on Sunday evenings is a set menu, £45 for 2 courses or £55 for 3 courses.

Wanting to linger longer? Make a night of it and book our Sunday Sleepover offer – on Sundays only, our rooms are almost half our usual price.
