Cool Place of the Week

On 10th May Hampton Manor became the Evening Standard‘s Cool Place of the Week. In Martin Dunford’s well-rounded, complimentary review of the Manor he describes it as ‘a grand, yet funky destination for room and rooms.’ ‘grand, yet funky’… we can roll with that.

In his first paragraph he expands that the Manor is ‘perfectly in tune with the times and does a pretty good job of luring trendy folk from nearby Birmingham out into the countryside.’

He pinpoints that service sits as priority no. 1, (describing it as ‘confident, nothing-is-too-much-trouble service’), together with ‘a food offering that is seasonal and organic, partly based on ingredients from the hotel’s own kitchen garden.’ Bang on.

In describing the individual and characterful bedrooms he explains that the common denominator is the William Morris influence: pattered wallpaper and fabrics and Arts and Crafts details.

He goes on to explore the Tasting Room, Library, Fred’s Bar, Parlour and terrace areas, before concluding that the Manor is ‘all in all a beautiful – and beautifully run – place for both cosmopolitan Brummies and jaded Londoners to get their feet muddy.’
